Being Part of the #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines Campaign

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that my ordinary upload on Multiply would ever be part of an extraordinary tourism campaign.

My photo makes it to DOT's new international campaign!
Thanks to BBDO for making it a meme and giving it the cool "Tour guides" headline.

How the photo got there was through my friend Meggie Valdes, the new Department of Tourism (DOT) Marketing and Promotions Officer. She asked me if I had any photos of the Philippines that the DOT could possibly use. I told her that I did and that she was free to scout my Facebook and Multiply pages for them.

Meggie came back to me with a list of photos that her team liked. Her team particularly liked the photo of the Igorot women and wanted to include it in their new campaign. When she asked me if it was okay for them to use it for free, I said, "Of course!" I even signed a contract to make it legal.

Last April 30, the DOT launched its new global campaign on CNN: "It's More Fun in the Philippines."

Some say that I should have charged the DOT for using my photo. But nah. It's already a priviledge to have my work chosen to be part of this campaign. Consider this my humble contribution to the country, even if it's through a photo.

Really. It's an honor to be part of the Philippines' new tourism campaign. I love it and to be part of it is just awesome. It's always nice to have talent put to good use.

And I didn't expect that I would get interviewed by GMA News TV that day!

Watch the short report here!
(Contrary to what I told GMA7, I took the photo in 2009--not in 2007. Super sorry!)

Through a simple photograph, I hope people will see that it’s really more fun in the Philippines.
