CORON: 5D/4N Itinerary

PALAWAN, Philippines — Who would've expected that a tweet would send me on a free trip to Coron? Not me. This has got to be the most unexpected trip of the year.

Coron is one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines. It's only an hour away from Manila by plane and it's where emerald waters, the world-famous Kayangan Lake, and even a safari awaits.

Coron is at the northern part of Palawan

Here's what I did:

DAY 1

Part of my prize was a two-night stay at Busuanga Island Paradise!

DAY 2
  • Coron Island Ultimate Tour:
    • (Hidden Lagoon, Calachuchi Coral Eden, Kayangan Lake, Isla Bulungan, Twin Peaks Reef, CYC Beach)
  • Mt. Tapyas
  • Option to go to Maquinit Hot Springs (too bad I wasn't able to go)

DAY 3

Since I was extending in Coron at my own expense, I moved out of Busuanga Island Paradise.
I made the worst decision by checking-in at Krystal Lodge

DAY 4

Share a boat and win a friendor four.

DAY 5

For those looking for credible and affordable tour packages, consider Calamianes Expeditions & Ecotours. They save you the hassle of renting your own boat and buying your own food.

My recommended tours for first-timers: B1 - Coron Island Ultimate Tour, H1 - Caluit Safari, D - Culion, and C - Malcapuya. Recommendations come from my two visits in Coron.

For me, there wasn't much to do around town. Most of the scenic spots were a boat ride away.
Also, the food was just average in Coron. Here's where I ate!

I feel that there's so much room for Coron to improve. Hopefully, power outages will be minimized, restaurants serving delicious food will emerge, nicer and more affordable accommodations will be built, and better tour guides will be hired to enrich the tourists' overall experience.

Also, I wonder if the local government will be able to do something about the sea water being polluted around the backpackers' area. Waste water goes straight into the ocean! Not only does it make the water stink, it may even be a health hazard for residents nearby.

I hope the local government will continue to improve the town of Coron.

With round-trip airplane tickets and two nights' accommodations given as a prize, I still spent around Php 7,000 for my 5D/4N stay. For my complete itinerary with cost breakdowns, click here!

Boy Wander in Coron.
Choose Philippines!

I'd like to thank Choose Philippines for this trip and PHRS for taking care of my reservations. I'd also like to thank Campaigns & Grey for sending me to the IMMAP Digital Seminar where the contest was held. This trip would not have been possible without them.
