Roro Bus going to El Nido

It isn't that long a ride and it's still the cheapest way to get to El Nido. This is via the Roro bus from Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

A one-way bus ticket costs Php 330 (non-aircon) or Php 483 (aircon) and the ride takes around five-and-a-half hours. This is a lot cheaper compared to riding the van (~Php 700) or the four-hour boat ride from Coron, which costs Php 2,500... or private planes.

Roro bus schedules going to El Nido as seen from the San Jose bus terminal in Puerto Princesa:
4am, *6am, 8am, *10am, 12pm, *2pm, 4pm, *6pm, *10pm.
*aircon buses

To be on the safe side, we physically went to the bus station at around 5pm and bought tickets. We reserved the seats that we wanted and returned an hour before the trip. Best to reserve a day.. or at least a few hours in advance, especially if you're taking the 10pm trip like we did.

There are plastic benches to sit and well, rest.
There are food stalls around but not really apt for dinner.

Route from Puerto Princesa to El Nido.
Duration: 5-6 hours

The ride was tough. The road was forever winding and there were certain parts that were very turbulent as the road wasn't paved yet. It was like being inside a vibrator! Pretty tolerable, though. We were still able to sleep along the way.

El Nido is the last stop so you don't need to worry about overshooting.

We arrived at around 3:30am and we rode a trike going to our hostel for Php 50.

Same schedules coming back to Puerto Princesa.

Pictures from our ride back to Puerto Princesa. We took the 10am trip.

Some of the roads are still being done.
Hopefully this will be complete within a few years.

Fantastic view from the right side of the bus.

    1. Hi Debbie Anne!

Wow! Having your honeymoon in El Nido would be awesome.

If I may suggest, and if your budget permits, it may be better to get a package for transpo/tour/accommodations from a nicer resort outside of El Nido town proper. This is for a more honeymoon-like feeling.

      Thanks!

  2. Great post =)
SOme of my friends and myself are planning to go there this August and were looking out for travelling options. The bus seems a good option =)
can you tell when was the last bus leaving from El nido to Puerto Princesa? We need to reach back at PP by 7am and we don't mind overnight travel. But are unsure of the timings of the return bus...

    1. Hi Bosky!

If I'm not mistaken, the Roro bus' last trip bound for PP is at 10pm. They have the same time schedules as the trips leaving for El Nido. Best to double check the phone numbers.

      Thanks!

  7. Thank you so much for this information. We are planning to go to El Nido in November, and the last time I was there (2009) there weren't any afternoon or night time bus trips. Btw, do yo have any tips/posts reEl Nido accommodations? many thanks...

    1. Hi V!

      Glad this was of help.

Regarding accommodations, i notice that the much better ones and more upscale (not to mention expensive) are not in the town proper.

But if you dont mind hostels, there are a lot around town.

    1. Hi John Ranier!

Yup. It's pretty safe to take the last trip to El Nido. That's what we did to save time and money.

For the most part, we were asleep... but the winding roads and unfinished parts of it made it a rough ride. You'll experience this even if you take the day trips. Hehe.

      Enjoy your trip in April!

  9. Hi Henson,
We are a couple arriving on 09:25am in PP airport and we will like to visit Underground River and then leave to El Nido in the same day. Do you think this is possible?
    Hope you can help us.
    Best regards,

    1. Hello,

Apologies for the very late reply. I hope your trip went well. If you're able to secure a slot for the Underground River on that day, then I think it would be fine. Were you able to do so?
